Moving home can be a really stressful experience. At Footprints Move Manager we specialise in helping senior citizens to move home, concentrating on making the whole experience go as smoothly as possible.
Here are our top 10 tips to make your move less stressful!
Ask for help – moving at any age can be difficult, don’t wait until the last minute to ask for help
Survival bag – Pack a “survival bag” for move day. This should include all your essentials such as medication, glasses, toiletries, snacks, drinks, change of clothes etc
Floorplans – Make floor-plans, these will help you determine what furniture to take and where it will fit in your new home
Contacts – Create lists of people, utilities/services that need to be notified of your move
Use it, don’t move it – Plan to use as many canned, frozen and paper products before moving
Donate – Items such as books occupy lots of space and are heavy to move. Consider donating to libraries, bookshops, charities or sell those with potential value to book dealers.
Save Memories: You may have boxes and boxes of photo’s and video containing precious memories of years gone by. These can be organised into albums or scrapbooks or be copied on to CD’s/DVD’s, there are companies that can do this for you.
Gift and Sell – It’s unlikely you will be able to take everything you own with you. Identify items would like to gift to the special people in your life and other items you may like to sell.
Start Early – End Happy: It is never too early to start.
